TL;DR – Before you list
- Start with unwanted personal possessions and check Vinted’s rules before listing.
- Use your own clear photographs, describe condition honestly and choose a realistic asking price.
- Buyers pay postage at checkout; follow the parcel instructions and dispatch deadline shown in your order.
- Keep communication and payment on Vinted, and remember that earnings become available after the transaction completes.
A cupboard clear-out can uncover plenty of things that still have something to offer. Clothes that no longer fit, books you have finished and décor that no longer suits your home might be exactly what someone else is looking for.
Vinted gives Australian members another way to pass those items on. If you have already explored buying on the platform, selling is a natural next step. A few thoughtful listings and some preparation can help make your first sale straightforward.
Start with the right items
Begin with personal possessions you no longer need and can describe confidently. A small, sturdy item is often easier for a first sale than something valuable, oversized or fragile.
Check Vinted’s current catalogue rules before photographing and listing. The marketplace includes categories beyond clothing, but that does not mean every household item is allowed.
There is also a distinction between clearing out your own belongings and professional selling. Vinted Australia’s standard accounts cannot be used for business stock or items sourced to resell for profit. At the time of writing, Vinted Pro is not available in Australia. Read the commercial-selling guidance if you are unsure where your activity fits.
Set up your profile and payment details
Choose a username and add a short, friendly introduction. Buyers do not need your life story, but a little context can make an account feel more approachable. Keep private contact details out of your public profile.
Activate your Vinted Balance and complete the verification requested through the platform. This is where earnings from completed sales are held before you withdraw them or use them for purchases.
Take photographs that answer questions
Photograph the actual item in natural light against an uncluttered background. Show the front, back and any details that help identify it. For décor and collectables, include the base, maker’s marks and close-ups of decoration.
Show faults clearly. A small chip, rubbed gilding or faded label should be visible rather than hidden by a flattering angle. Good photographs help buyers decide whether the condition suits them.
Avoid filters that change colours and do not use stock photographs in place of your own. A ruler or clear measurements in the description can help explain scale.
Write a useful title and description
A good title tells buyers what they are looking at. Include the item type, brand or maker where known, and a relevant detail such as colour, material or size. Keep claims about age or rarity out unless you can support them.
The description should explain condition, measurements, what is included and any faults. “Small chip underneath the base, shown in the final photo” gives buyers more useful information than “good for its age”.
For electrical or battery-operated items, explain what you tested. Do not describe something as fully working if you only checked that it switches on.
Set a price you are comfortable accepting
Compare similar items, taking account of condition and completeness. Remember that another seller’s asking price does not prove what an item will sell for.
Vinted’s standard selling process has no seller fees, although optional promotional services cost extra. You still need to consider packaging materials and the time involved in preparing an order.
Leave some room for offers if that suits you, but avoid inflating the price so much that buyers lose interest. From their perspective, the total also includes the Vinted fee and postage.
Understand postage before the sale
Choose the appropriate parcel option when listing, allowing for the item and its protective packaging. Weigh and measure it packed if you are unsure. A fragile vase needs more space than its bare dimensions suggest.
Buyers pay postage at checkout, and Vinted supplies the postage label for the order. Australia Post handles Australian delivery, with labels printable at home or at a Post Office using the app’s QR code.
At the time of writing, discounted postage is displayed alongside sellers’ asking prices. It may make smaller purchases more appealing, but promotions can change. Use the order’s instructions rather than buying a separate postage service yourself.
Handle questions and offers calmly
Answer questions clearly and add photographs when they would help. If you discover a fault while checking, update the listing before someone buys.
You can accept, decline or respond to offers according to what you are willing to take. Check the order screen for a completed purchase before packing and dispatching.
If the same item is listed elsewhere, remove the other listing promptly when it sells. Keeping your available items organised prevents an awkward double sale.
Pack properly and send on time
Protect the item from movement, impact and moisture. For fragile décor, use a sturdy box, cushion vulnerable areas and fill empty space. Several fragile pieces should not knock against each other inside the parcel.
Photograph the item and the packed parcel before sending, and retain the lodgement receipt. These records may help if a problem arises.
Vinted’s guidance says to send within five business days of purchase unless the buyer agrees to extend the deadline. Follow the deadline and shipping method displayed in your order, using its supplied label.
Know when you will be paid
A buyer’s payment initially appears as pending. The transaction completes when the buyer confirms everything is satisfactory, or when the confirmation period passes without an issue.
Vinted says payment then moves to your available balance within two days. You can withdraw available earnings to your bank account or use them on Vinted. Allow additional time for a withdrawal to reach your bank.
If a buyer reports a problem, respond through the order and follow Vinted’s instructions. Keep messages and payment on the platform, and never enter card details through a link sent by a supposed buyer to “receive” your money.
Build confidence with a few listings
Start small, keep your descriptions accurate and make sure you have suitable packaging ready. You will soon learn how the process fits your routine.
Honest listings, sensible prices and careful packing help give useful possessions another home.
